New for 2018, the UK OSPAs will be running a thought leadership summit in London on the afternoon of our awards ceremony. The event will generate debate about how the security industry should go forward. It will facilitate discussion among security experts, while hearing perspectives from outside the security sector. In a sure to be popular session, we also will be hosting a group of ex-offenders in a unique and frank debate.

From the 2014 Security Research Initiative report ‘Aspiring to Excellence’, we identified that the varied nature of security and the many differing interpretations of excellence, mean that the concept of ‘security excellence’ is challenging to define and to achieve. Our thought leadership summit will, like the OSPAs themselves, take an active role in discussing and articulating that excellence. Delegates will leave the summit with ideas about what constitutes best practice and an appreciation of ways to move the industry forward into the future.

Confirmed speakers include, The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP – Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Ian Dyson QPM – Commissioner, City of London Police; Andrew Thomson, Director of Property Services, The Shard.

Professor Martin Gill, founder and director of the OSPAs comments:

“Following the launch of the UK OSPAs earlier this year, it was felt that both public and private sector organisations would benefit from the opportunity to discuss together issues of mutual interest.  After listening to the views of many organisations including the Security Commonwealth, the conference was formed.”

“The event will provide a platform to hear from Government, Police and Specifiers about issues which could impact on the way we do business going forward; there are lots of uncertainties about the implications and opportunities of Brexit and this event aims to make things a little clearer.”

Gill, further adds

“this event is open to all business sectors and I urge everyone to consider attending where you will be given the opportunity to pose questions to a panel of influential speakers.”
